Running has recently seen a rise in social popularity. Instead of just being a support, running has become a powerful way to connect with others and build community. With new running clubs popping up everywhere, we’ve put together a few ideas to help your club grow its presence and strengthen local connections.

Host a Wellness Clinic

If you’ve recently started a running club, chances are you and your members care deeply about health and wellness. Hosting a “social and sweat” wellness clinic is a great way to build a meaningful connection amongst your current members and community. By combining a fun group workout with a relaxed social gathering afterwards, runners get the chance to bond both physically and personally.

Invite your local pilates studio to host a class and follow it by providing green juices or other tasty drinks. Take it a step further and hire a DJ to hype up the energy. You can even have cold plunges available after the workout. This gives your running club a chance to connect further with your current members, and even add more along the way.

Create Inclusive Events in Your Community

Community is all about inclusivity. If you want your running club to be a pillar of your community, you need to accept people from all walks of life. Whether it’s someone’s first run or 100th, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment is key. Think about hosting beginner’s clinics or couch-to-5k programs.

You can host specialty runs such as costume runs, night runs, or even family fun runs to help break people out of their shell and connect on a deeper level. If you see new faces at your club, be sure to introduce yourself to them. Think about even doing a pre-run icebreaker! By taking those extra steps, the club becomes more than just a place to run; it becomes a place where relationships blossom and your community presence/ relationships grows stronger!

Have a Strong Social Media Presence

Another thing about running recently… it’s all over social media. Whether it’s Instagram, Facebook, or Tik-Tok, running is everywhere! What better way to strengthen your community ties and strengthen relationships, than having a strong social media presence. Actively engaging with your community and members, shows authenticity and encourages new faces to show up to your meets.

You can tell that a running club is really a community just by some of the posts you see online. Be intentional with what you’re posting. Share member stories, local routes, and running tips. Highlight community events and partnerships going on. Promote a local race that benefits a charity. You can even reach out to a local news outlet to highlight club milestones or charity work your club is doing.

Host Charity Races in your Community

What better way to strengthen your ties in your community than hosting an event/race that gives back?! This shows your running club’s dedication to support important community causes, while bringing together runners, businesses, and even residents.

Whether you’re partnering with a local nonprofit, school, or health organization, it’s a chance to show your club as a positive, active presence in the community. It’s not just about running; it’s about doing good and inspiring others to join in.

Plus, events like these naturally create feel-good energy and often draw in new faces who are excited to be part of something meaningful.

Partner with Local Businesses

A big part of community is exactly that… tapping into your local community to create a presence. Right now, a big thing in the running is coffee run’s. Run clubs across the nation are partnering with their nearby coffee shops to host a “coffee and run” type of vibe. Find a unique coffee shop in your city and see if they’re willing to host your running club on the weekends.

Not only are you creating community ties, you’re also helping small businesses by drawing more people to their shop! If the coffee shop is willing, they can even offer your club discount incentives for stopping by.

Below are some fun templates you can customize to promote your next coffee run!

At the end of the day, building a strong community through your running club comes down to showing up. For your running clubs, your community, and each other. Say hi to every new face you see, partner with local businesses—small, genuine efforts go much further than you’d think. When your club creates a space that feels fun, welcoming, and inclusive, it turns into something bigger than just running. It becomes a community that brings people together and inspires something truly special!
