Girls on the Run Pocono uses running to teach girls life skills and inspire them to be healthy. The program’s designed for girls and includes running training runs and days of reflection. The program provides a safe and supportive environment where girls build self-esteem and develop positive relationships with coaches and runners.

Girls are trusted every step of the way to make their own choices, overcome fears, and work through disappointments. Also, they learn to manage emotions, set goals, and improve fitness levels. Further, they look out for their teammates, help younger runners learn the course, and celebrate accomplishments. All of it they then apply in school or at home to keep their lives on track.

One of our excellent partners is Girls on the Run Pocono. This program serves over 6,000 girls in five locations in Pennsylvania. What’s more, this fabulous group does an annual sneaker fundraiser. As a result, they have the chance to raise funds for their program. But they do more. They recycle sneakers, which helps our climate crisis.

Girls on the Run Pocono did a great job in their most recent fundraiser! They collected over 2,000 bags, which translated to getting a $20,000 fundraising check!

Why the Program Matters to Girls

As mentioned, Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization that uses running to teach girls life skills and inspire them to be healthy. The program provides a safe and supportive environment where girls build self-esteem and learn to have positive relationships with others. The program leans on allowing the girls to trust themselves. As a result, it builds them up and fosters healthy relationships. Girls learn about teamwork by helping each other during difficult moments on the course. They also understand how fun it can be to push themselves past their perceived limits with encouragement from coaches, peers, and adults.

Why A Sneaker Recycling Should Be in Your Plans

You do so much for yourself and others when you do a shoe drive fundraiser or participate in a sneaker recycling program. For one, you get paid! And, if you want to blow it out of the water, you could do what Girls on the Run Pocono did. However, it doesn’t stop there.

As we know, the best we could do is to leave our world better than we found it. By recycling sneakers and running shoes, you ensure you repurpose athletic shoes in your community. In other words, you help people repurpose sneakers and not throw them into the trash. As a result, you support the planet and lower our carbon footprint. And, it’s a great lesson to share and teach kids.

Further, recycling sneakers helps people worldwide. In developing countries, many people need sustainable opportunities to earn a living. Selling the sneakers and athletic shoes collected here allows them to do just that. In other words, recycling sneakers provides inventory for people to work for a good living.
