What Are the Benefits of Regular Exercise?

Team Sneakers4Good

Most everyone knows the benefits of regular exercise exist for overall health and wellness. As we know, regular exercise provides a myriad of benefits to the body. For instance, it improves our physical and mental health as well as our moods. However, what—specifically—does regular exercise do for the body and wellbeing?

In this article, we’ll explore some of the benefits of regular exercise in more detail. For starters, you need to know that the benefits of regular exercise are vast and varied. As a result of doing it, you experience improved heart function. And, of course, it also leads to weight loss. So, let’s get started and see why you need a regular exercise regimen.

Exercise and Mental Health

One of the benefits of regular exercise is that it improves your mental health. If you pay attention to the news, it’s always doom and gloom. And as we know, many people felt increased stress caused by the pandemic and economy. Inevitably, that weighs on people and increases stress levels—even if they don’t realize it.

So, an excellent way to counterbalance the added stress is through regular exercise. When you exercise regularly, it helps you stay calm and in a centered emotional place. Because of the endorphins released, studies show that it helps reduce the sense of pain in your brain. Thus, making you feel better.

Improved Sleep

Unfortunately, some experts consider lack of sleep a global epidemic. As much as 45% of the world’s population suffers from sleep deprivation. Further, sleep deprivation brings significant issues to the overall health and wellness of people. For instance, it adversely impacts memory and mental processing, which hurts the quality of life for people.

Fortunately, one of the benefits of regular exercise is the improvement of sleep. Johns Hopkins University completed a study proving that exercise helps “you fall asleep more quickly and improves sleep quality.” Exercise raises a person’s core body temperature. And as it drops after 30 to 90 minutes of rest, it promotes rest and sleep.

Exercise and Health

Regular exercise is proven to have many potential benefits. Sure, as you exercise, you could see yourself lose weight or build muscle tone. However, it’s got other benefits that you might not readily see, but your doctor will when you go for your annual check-up through regular testing.

A few of the other benefits of regular exercise is what it does to your body. For instance, it helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol. And as we know, that helps to prevent heart disease, especially as people age. Moreover, it could also increase bone density and reduces the effects of menopause.

Better Skin

If you happen to care about your skin, exercise also promotes healthier skin. And as people age, that’s something that’s undoubtedly a big plus. According to Ellen Marmur, MD, author of Simple Skin Beauty: Every Woman’s Guide to a Lifetime of Healthy, Gorgeous Skin and associate professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, exercise promotes healthy blood circulation.

Essentially, when you exercise, your body increases the flow of blood. In turn, that promotes better skin. The increased and healthier blood flow carries essential oxygen and nutrition throughout the body. Also, this process allows for more waste, including free radicals, to get removed from the body.

It’s never too late to start getting active, even if you’ve never exercised before or you haven’t exercised in years. You might find that it’s easier than you think! The World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per week in addition to muscle strengthening exercises at least twice a week.

So, go ahead and get started with a regular exercise program. Soon you’ll see how awesome you look and feel. And please remember that as you go through sneakers, you never want to dispose of them in the trash. There’s a free sneaker recycling program for you to check out and help the planet called Sneakers For Good.
